Lonliness

Everyone feels lonely from time to time. These feelings can be especially strong if we have recently lost a spouse, family member, or friend. Lonliness can also be something that happens over time, as we gradually shut ourselves out from social activity a little bit more each day.

Get Involved
We can overcome our isolation and open up to others. Here are some examples of activities and organizations that will help increase your social calendar.
Contact a local church - find out when services are held, and whether there are activities designed especially for the senior community.
Visit a senior center - these community centers typically host local support groups for a variety of topics such as grief and loss, as well as social mixers.
Take a class - learn something you've always wanted to know, or teach a class on a topic that you know well.
Find a job - full or part time work provides both social and financial benefits.
Volunteer - get involved in a cause that you care about.
Attend local events - visit local bookstores for author lectures, or the library for book clubs.
Chat online - talk to people from around the world! Just be careful not to reveal personal information that could be used by identity thieves.
